What the best way to select the right regulator? (scuba)?

Scubabob, Thanks for the thorough answer. I’m planning only to sports dive for now until I train up to wreck diving eventually. I was looking at a sealed system for Nitrox. Any recommendations?
I could see using a rebreather on a wreck if the site has something delicate overhead, but I can’t image a “feeling of power” from diving like that..
It sounds like he was a military diver…that’s the kind of talk I get from my shipmates who did combat diving. They tend to thump their chests a bit and don’t dive conservatively.
